Snow Angel

"Snow Angel"
8-23-2013

"Look Miarta, it's a baby."

"Stay away from it Laisa. The mother may be near."

"I don't think she's near. See how skinny it is. It hasn't had food in awhile. Either it's mother is dead or its been abandoned."

"Either way, best to leave it be. Its life is in fate's hand now, not ours."

"But what if fate brought us here to save it? Listen to its crys. It needs me."

Miarta shook her head. Her younger sister was always trying to save helpless things in distress; birds, frogs, fish, mice, and now this. She knew it was no good arguing, Laisa could be very stubborn at times, but still she tried. "You cannot raise a fox cub Laisa. Father will not allow it."

Ignoring her sister's remark, Laisa reached down and picked up the whining bundle of white fur. The cub immediately began to nuzzle her neck and lick her cheek. Giggling, Laisa cradled the cub in her arms and spoke softly to it.

"Laisa you must put it back. We need to go home now before it gets dark. Father will be worried, and if you bring that with us, he'll be furious. Come now. Lay it back down and let's go. "

"Hush Miarta. You let me worry about Father. I can't leave her alone to die. Look, she loves me." The fox was curled up in Laisa's arms and quickly falling to sleep. "She says her  name is Talini, snow angel. "
